Through a federal government project to generate an online formerly used defense site (FUDS) presence, EarthOnDrive/WavGen has created a nationwide FUD site mapping server using the UNM Mapserver technology and the ESRI ArcGIS map server technology. Programmed in PhP-Mapscript and using a postgress-mySQL back end, users can interactively query FUD sites, and run DB queries using state of the art back end technology.
Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) are properties that were owned by, leased to, or otherwise possessed by the United States and under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of Defense. The term also refers to the U.S. military program created in 1986 for assessment and environmental restoration, if any, led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE, also sometimes shortened to CoE) is a U.S. federal agency under the Department of Defense and a major Army command made up of some 36,500 civilian and military personnel, making it one of the worlds largest public engineering, design, and construction management agencies.
